Retro Jam - Day 6


Tutorial level is finalized and I can finally start designing the following levels! I also finished the power ups today! Each egg provides a different power up, and I figure each power up will correspond to it's own respective level. Power ups are:

  • Wings: Allow double jump
    • Side Effect: None
  •  Speed Up: Allow player to run significantly faster
    • Side Effect: Worse deceleration
  • Cannonball: Indestructible object that can be used to destroy enemies
    • Side Effect: Consumes fruit permanently (until room reset) without growing 

Additional abilities and side effects:

  • Egg bounce (Billy can ground pound while holding an egg, giving him a higher jump)
    • Side effect: Using the ability too quickly in sequence causes Billy to lose control and let go of the egg
  • Eggs can destroy enemies
    • Side effect: Egg itself takes damage. Enough damage will result in the egg shattering

I also realized today that the egg growth mechanic works really well in relation to the Springtime Jam happening concurrently. Considering I've created this game in a time frame that accommodates the requirements of that Jam, I'll submit this game to that Jam as well!
