Retro Jam - Day 1


Per Retro Jam's Q&A section, I worked on the artwork and basic controls before the Jam started (literally just got Billy Hatcher in the game and jumping on a single platform). My goal for Day 1 was to create the interaction between the egg and Billy Hatcher (let him push it, have it roll and rotate, let him jump with it, allow player to release the egg whenever they like). I built everything with "enabling the player" in mind. Very simple stuff today. Hoping to get more complex movements for Billy while he's holding an egg. Thinking about the theme "side effects" I think I'll have whatever power-up comes out of each egg come with some sort of negative side effect. This game should lend itself well to the theme!

I should also note, the background is from Fez Escalante and the Billy Hatcher character sprite is from spriters-resource.com by Bucketboy. All other artwork is made by me.
