The Post-Jam Version Is Here!

Hi friends! Over the last month I've been hard at work creating this more polished "post-jam version" of TetherGeist with twice as many stages and several bug fixes and playability improvements. A lot of these features are based on feedback from you! I also further explored the mechanics with new puzzles and more difficult platforming. All with speed-running in mind of course...

Needless to say, this new version plays much better and in turn is even more fun than the original jam version. I've included a list of the edits and improvements in this new version below.

Post Jam Version - Notes

Improvements - Level Design

  • Added 15 new stages (30 stages in total)
  • Redesigned 9 of the original stages to improve flow/playability
  • Added speed-run timer
  • Added level number to the GUI
  • Added spikes that activate/deactivate when split
  • Added new master track for music
  • Adjusted aesthetics to some of the original stages
  • Removed springs from all levels

Improvements - Player Design

  • Fixed inertia playability issues by drastically decreasing horizontal and vertical movement of the spirit while in the returning state
  • Added input buffering to allow for instant new splits right after rejoining
  • Reworked spirit mobility to be faster and more fluid
  • Spirit can now stretch farther from the player if "hooked" on a wall while the split player falls or drifts away
  • Spirit can now collect diamonds while in the returning state
  • Added room restart function for controller if player presses "start"
  • Added jump dust animation

Bug Fixes

  • Game no longer crashes while moving platform is colliding with the spirit
  • Fixed bug where player sometimes can rejoin while ghost is in spirit walls
  • Fix bugs where player behaves sporadically if pushed off of a platform while in split state
  • Spirit no longer enters purple walls while also in a blue wall
  • Music no longer hiccups when it loops

What's next for TetherGeist?

This game has received too much praise from this wonderful online community to just end it here. It's both humbling and encouraging! I'll be scoping things out with the team and looking to build this into a story-driven feature-length indie game worthy of your five to ten dollars on Steam, Nintendo eShop, here on Itch, etc. Big dreams for a later date. We'll keep everyone posted :)

PS - my current speedrun time in this post jam version is 4:24:52. Can anyone beat it?
