Great Spring Jam - Day 1


Great Spring Jam 2021 is happening the same time as Retro Jam 2021 (just ended). As luck would have it, I built a game for Retro Jam that coincidentally used a constant growth mechanic. So the majority of the mechanics and coding come from the game I made for that Jam (Billy Hatcher and the Retro Remix). With the coding in place, it's left more time to create artwork and a story for this game. So I've created a totally new character following the Spring Jam's optional color theme and plan to create a totally new game with the existing code. I'm honestly extremely excited to be able to spend more of this Jam time on story and level design, rather than coding and debugging. Though I probably won't be able to resist fixing some of the bugs that are still present.. 

As for what I've accomplished today. I created every state of the player sprite (idle, run, hit, jump, egg hold, egg hold jump, hatch), the golden egg sprite, and I drew the thumbnail in photoshop (just got a wacom tablet and it is noice). Fonts are from dafont.com ("Maimoonde" & "Be True to Your School"). Tomorrow I hope to start on level 1, add jump through platforms (currently not in the code), and maybe start dabbling in character dialog boxes.
